Set up RideLens on your iPhone
RideLens reads each Uber or Lyft offer on your screen and tells you, out loud and in color, whether it is worth taking. Set it up once, then start it with three taps every time you drive.
Before your first driveDo these once.
-
Make it yours
Set what a good ride means to you
RideLens›Settings›Grading
RideLens grades every offer against your numbers. A good ride depends on your city, your car and your goals, so the same offer can be green for one driver and red for another. Set two lines for pay per hour and pay per mile: green for a ride you are happy to take, yellow for the least you would accept. Then set the longest trip you want. Adjust them after your first few shifts.
-
Set Uber Driver and Lyft Driver to English
Settings›Uber Driver›Language›English
Do the same for Lyft Driver. RideLens reads English offers in US dollars and miles. Your phone itself can stay in any language.
-
Allow notifications
Offer alerts and the "scanning stopped" warning arrive as notifications. If you tapped Don't Allow earlier:
Settings›RideLens›Notifications›Allow -
Add your car (optional)
RideLens›Settings›Vehicles
With your cost per mile, RideLens shows the Net you keep after gas and wear, not only the fare.
Every time you driveiOS asks you to start screen reading yourself, each time.
-
Open RideLens and tap Start Broadcast
It is the big button on the Home screen.
-
In the popup, pick RideLens, then tap Start Broadcast
After a 3-second countdown a red indicator appears at the top of the screen, and RideLens shows Scanning Active.
-
Switch to Uber Driver or Lyft Driver and go online
A small floating RideLens window appears. Leave it there and drive. When an offer arrives you hear the grade and see the numbers.
Reading an offer
Meets your green lines. Usually worth taking.
Between your green and yellow lines. Your call.
Below your yellow line on pay per hour, pay per mile or trip length.
Pay per hour and pay per mile always include the pickup, because you drive that part unpaid. The example above is a 19-minute pickup plus a 15-minute trip.
The floating window
- Drag it anywhere on the screen.
- Swipe it to a screen edge to tuck it away. It keeps running, and you can pull it back.
- Tap ✕ to close it. Voice and the Dynamic Island keep working. Open RideLens once to bring the window back.
- It closes by itself when you stop.
When you are done
Open RideLens and tap Stop Broadcast. You can also tap the red indicator at the top of the screen and choose Stop. RideLens then shows a short summary of your shift.
If something goes wrong
- You got a "RideLens stopped" notification
- Your phone locked, and iOS ended screen reading. Open RideLens and tap Start Broadcast again. See the tip about Auto-Lock below.
- The floating window is gone
- It was closed with ✕. Open RideLens once, then switch back to Uber or Lyft.
- A number looks wrong
- While scanning, keep only Uber Driver or Lyft Driver on screen. Other apps on top, such as chat apps, delivery apps or screenshots of offers, can be read by mistake. Then send us the details: RideLens › Settings › Report a Bug. Your logs are attached for you.
- You can't hear the alerts
- Turn the volume up and check RideLens › Settings › Voice.
Good to know: when your phone locks
iOS ends screen reading whenever your phone locks. Uber and Lyft keep the screen awake during a trip, but not always while you wait for offers or after you go offline. If that happens, RideLens sends you a notification right away, and you can start it again with the same three taps.
If you would rather not restart, you can keep the screen on while you drive and leave the phone on a charger:
