Help & FAQ

RideLens closed beta · Last updated: May 16, 2026

Installation

  1. Sign in. When you open RideLens for the first time, sign in with the same Google account that was added to the beta whitelist.
  2. Onboarding. Follow the 5 setup screens. Each step asks for one permission.
  3. Go online. Open Uber Driver or Lyft Driver. RideLens monitors automatically.

Permissions — what each one does and why

RideLens requires four permissions for full functionality.

Accessibility Service. Lets RideLens detect when an offer screen appears in Uber or Lyft. Without this, RideLens cannot see offers.

Display Over Other Apps. Lets the HUD float above your rideshare app. Without this, you can't see the grade while looking at the offer.

Notifications. Required by Android for background services. Also delivers bug-report prompts.

Screen Capture (MediaProjection). Optional but recommended. Without it, RideLens reads offer text from the accessibility tree only — slower and less accurate. With it, RideLens captures the offer card and runs on-device OCR — faster, more accurate.

You can change permissions any time in Android Settings → Apps → RideLens.

How grading works

Each offer is graded on three dimensions:

You set the green and yellow thresholds for each dimension in Settings. An offer is green only if all three dimensions are green. If any dimension falls to yellow, the offer is yellow. If any dimension falls below yellow, the offer is red.

Defaults: $30/hr · $1.20/mi · ≤25 min (green) and $20/hr · $0.90/mi · ≤40 min (yellow). Adjust to your market.

HUD modes

The floating HUD has three modes. Tap to cycle.

Long-press the HUD to open the RideLens app. Drag the HUD to reposition it.

When the service starts, it opens in Expanded by default. Your tap choice is remembered for the rest of the session.

Troubleshooting

HUD shows "RL" with no data.
The accessibility service is not picking up offers, or screen capture token has expired. Open RideLens → "Tap to re-grant capture" if shown. Confirm Accessibility Service is enabled in Android Settings.

HUD doesn't appear at all.
Check overlay permission: Android Settings → Apps → RideLens → Display over other apps → Allow.

Offer is parsed but fare is wrong.
OCR can occasionally misread the dollar sign or fare amount. Report it via the in-app "Report a bug" button so the developer can improve the parser.

Same offer shows multiple times in History.
This was fixed in v2.6.0+. If you see duplicates, please report your app version via the bug-report button.

Service stops after a while.
Android may pause background services for battery savings. Confirm "Ignore battery optimizations" is granted, and consider locking RideLens in the recent apps screen (varies by manufacturer).

Grading seems off for my market.
Adjust thresholds in Settings. Defaults are calibrated for North Carolina; high-cost markets (NYC, SF) will want higher thresholds.

Reporting bugs

Open RideLens → Settings → Report a bug. The report includes recent logs and your app version. You can review and approve before it is sent. Reports go to a private Telegram channel monitored by the developer.

You can also email support@ridelens.app.

Privacy and data

All offer analysis happens on your device. No offer content is sent to any server. See the Privacy Policy for details.
