Privacy Policy
Short version: RideLens grades rideshare offers — it reads your screen to show grades but never accepts, declines, or taps anything. Offer screens are read and processed on your device. An account is required; your mileage and session summaries are backed up to your private account in the cloud so you don't lose them. RideLens uses a subscription (15-day free trial) — no ads. Subscription billing is handled by Google Play; we do not store payment info. We do not sell your data.
1. Who we are
RideLens ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile application (Android, with iPhone coming soon) developed and maintained by an independent developer. You can reach us at support@ridelens.app.
2. Information we collect
To provide accounts, cloud backup, and the subscription service, we collect:
- Account identifier: the email address and sign-in provider identifier (e.g. Google) you use to sign in, via Firebase Authentication.
- Mileage & session summaries: per-shift summaries — grade counts, pay-per-hour / pay-per-mile figures, total miles, duration, and an optional vehicle nickname — backed up to your private account (Firestore). These are aggregated numbers; we do not store your route or GPS coordinates.
- Crash diagnostics: device model, OS version, app version, and crash stack traces (Firebase Crashlytics) — no offer or earnings data.
3. Information processed on your device (not uploaded)
The following is read and processed only on your device and is never uploaded to us or any server:
- Offer screen content / OCR text from your driver app (fare, time, distance) — analyzed on-device to compute the grade, then discarded. Raw offer text is not transmitted.
- Raw location / GPS: used to measure trip distance for your mileage log. Distance is computed on the device; only the resulting total miles (a number) is included in the session summary backed up to your account. Your GPS track / coordinates are not uploaded.
- App settings: your grade thresholds and preferences (local SharedPreferences).
- Local logs & CSV export: a detailed on-device log you can export yourself via the in-app share function.
4. Accounts (required)
An account is required to use RideLens — it secures your data and lets your mileage and history sync to a new phone. You sign in with a supported provider (e.g. Google); we store your email / provider identifier to link your data to you. We do not use it for marketing. The account is not anonymous.
5. Cloud backup & sync
Your mileage and session summaries are backed up to your private account in Firebase Firestore (users/{your-id}/…). Only you, signed in to your account, can access them; our security rules restrict every record to its owner. Offer screen content and OCR text are not part of this backup — they stay on your device. Firebase processing is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Location & mileage
With your permission, RideLens uses your device location to measure how far you drive during a shift, for your own mileage/earnings log (IRS standard-mileage style). The distance is calculated on the device. We store and back up the total miles per session — not your route, not individual GPS points. You can deny or revoke location permission in your device settings; mileage tracking simply stops.
7. Subscription & billing
RideLens uses a subscription model with a 15-day free trial, after which a subscription is required to continue using the app. There are no ads. Billing is handled entirely by Google Play Billing — we do not see or store your payment card details. Subscription management (cancel, upgrade, receipt) is done through your Google Play account. For billing questions contact support@ridelens.app.
8. Accessibility Service
RideLens uses Android's Accessibility Service API to read offer card text from rideshare driver screens. This is a read-only capability: RideLens reads offer details (fare, distance, time) for on-device grading. It does not accept, decline, or perform any touch action — it never interacts with the apps it reads. It does not read keystrokes, passwords, banking information, or content outside the rideshare apps you authorize, and it does not transmit captured content. This usage is declared to Google Play as a driver-assistance reader.
9. Crash reporting (Crashlytics)
In production builds, the app uses Firebase Crashlytics to report crash stack traces (device model, OS version, app version, stack trace). Crash reports do not contain offer data or earnings information.
10. Third-party services
- Google ML Kit Text Recognition — runs on-device; offer text is not sent to Google.
- Firebase (Google) — Authentication, Firestore (cloud backup), Crashlytics.
- Google Play Billing — subscription management. We do not store payment details.
11. Children's privacy
RideLens is intended for adult rideshare drivers (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will assist with deletion.
12. Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account and all associated cloud data at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This removes your Firebase account and your session/mileage data in the cloud (including all records under your account), and wipes the app's local data on that device. Uninstalling the app removes the remaining local data from that device. You can also email support@ridelens.app for assistance.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
